Makeup Vanity Organization

Time for another organization project! I have a separate vanity in my bedroom where I get ready every day. It houses all my makeup, hair products and nail stuff. It’s the old-school Alex 5 drawers from Ikea, and if you read my Primary Bedroom Design post, you will know that I am not replacing it when I update my bedroom. I had thought about replacing with an actual piece of furniture, like a nice desk, but you just can’t beat the storage that these Alex drawers provide! So, I am keeping it. At least for now. :) But, it needed some organizational love. Some drawers were fine and didn’t change much, but others were OOC!

Let’s begin, shall we?

Hair Products & Accessories

This top drawer had maybe one organizer tray in it when I began. The washcloths were all shoved in, the clips, hair ties, bobby pins were all loosey-goosey floating around in the drawer. It was just terrible. And I go into this drawer every single day! I pulled out my trusty ‘ol, inexpensive organizers from Walmart that I used in my bathroom vanity organization and got to work. I separated out my clips, elastics and srunchies in the smallest bins. I have an boiled egg cup that I use for bobby pins and then tucked my headbands behind that in one of the longer trays. Next to that I have another long, narrow tray with a bottle of makeup brush cleaner (it’s just rubbing alcohol and water) that I use in between brush washing. I used the medium, rectangular tray for my makeup washcloths. Lastly, a sweet Little Rylie coaster that she made these for me for Christmas one year. (She’s almost 18 now!) I, 9.9 times out of 10, have a cup of coffee while I’m getting ready.

Next drawer has all my hair products. I just used the long, narrow trays to keep them from rolling around in the drawer.

The next two drawers aren’t the prettiest, but they house my hair tools and my brushes and combs.

The bottom drawer on the left side, has all of my nail polish and nail tools. These bins are from The Container Store and I’ve used them for years!

Makeup

On the right side, I keep my make up and make up travel bags. Top drawer (left photo above) is my everyday make up drawer. The drawer under it (right photo above) are my extras and back ups. Again, using the same organizers from Walmart.

I hope this has sparked some inspiration for you to tackle a place in your home that needs some organizational love. Until next time…

xo, Kristin
